Remember, Remember the 5th of November
Gamma Phi Beta hosted our 4th annual Crescent Classic Gamma Games on November 5th, 2011.
This year we revamped the event to add even more fun and excitement. Participants in this event competed in various field day games for the coveted first place title. This year we sought to bring a “team” feel to the competition. Instead of having the Greek groups separated and competing against each other, we placed them on teams in order to build awareness to our cause as a group as well as set a community atmosphere for Greek life at Pepperdine.

For the spectators, our event included entertainment, auctions,
and free subway sandwiches. We wanted make the event enjoyable for everyone, not just the participants. Since philanthropy and community service are qualities that are extremely important to Gamma Phi, we wanted the Pepperdine community to have an invested interest in our cause. We wanted to make it meaningful for those who dedicated their time and money to our charities. Gamma Phi strove to educate all attendees on our two causes because in the end, it is all about the organizations we support.
The day began with the opening ceremonies of announcing the rules and most importantly sharing our charities with all of the participants. We were then dismissed to begin the games. Two Gamma Phi coaches were assigned to each team in order to help motivate them and to help them with the games. We had eight different “game stations”. Accuracy throw, 50 meter dash, ultimate sack race, baton pass, pass the orange, pyramid building, hula hoop competition, and our inflatable obstacle course. All of the events were entertaining not only for the
coaches, but for the teams as well. During half time we had a skit competition where the teams had to incorporate our charities and build awareness for the attendees in a fun and positive way. After the games finished, we announced the winner of the different awards. We had awards for MVP, Spirit, Profile pictures, and overall Gamma Games champions.
Gamma Phi rose awareness for our cause in various ways. In the months leading up to our event, we went into the immediate community and the bordering areas to ask for donations and raise awareness to our wonderful cause. Along with this, we sent out press releases around the Malibu area as well as on campus. During the week of our event we tabled in the Cafeteria while asking people about supporting the cause. We didn't focus on buying tickets or winning points because we genuinely wanted people to know about our charities and how they allow children to grow. As we tabled, we asked the Pepperdine community how they support charitable causes and what they do to help fight AIDS. This brought awareness and a level of understanding to the Pepperdine community because of the serious of the matter and Gamma Phi's passion towards finding a solution for these children. Also in the week leading up to our event, we recorded a radio shout-out that aired on 102.7 KIIS FM. Gamma Phi was so extremely excited with the idea that we could share our charity and raise awareness not only within Malibu, but to a large area of Southern California. Specific to our event, we made sure that the participants and spectators were made aware of what their money would be supporting. Our president gave a speech at the beginning of the games to show the severity of our philanthropy and offer a solution to those who came out to support.

I have attached our video of Gamma Games because no words can truly express the fun and compassion that was present at our 4th annual Crescent Classic Gamma Games.

Feelin' Fly Like A Gphi- Pledge class 2011
It has been a while since we have posted, however many AMAZING things have been happening in our chapter!

First of all formal recruitment is now over! Throughout recruitment week we had many wonderful people to help us during this stressful, but fulfilling time. Some of the people that helped us significantly were our alumns from Zeta Theta Caroline, Tai, Erin, Kimber, Hermelinda, and Nikki Schulz. We couldn't have done it without you all! Along with these wonderful alums, we had our chapter advisor Shannon and recruitment specialists Jenn and Sash! These women show the passion and dedication that all Gamma Phi's should strive to maintain.

The hard work and dedication that my sisters have paid off! We welcomed 21 AMAZING and WONDERFUL new sisters into our chapter! They all represent Gamma Phi's values and the Zeta Theta personality as well!

We are all extremely excited to head out to sisterhood retreat THIS WEEKEND to bond and enjoy each others company!

I can HARDLY wait!

Summer Adventures!
Summer 2011 has been an exciting summer for all of us! Many of our sisters have encountered exciting tales about Europe, Buenos Aires, and even California! However, through all of the travels and long distances, we still remain in touch. The strong sisterhood we have in our sorority never fails to amaze my sisters and I. Whether in Malibu, Europe, or Argentina we have become closer with every new adventure. We are extremely excited to begin the next chapter in our lives at Pepperdine and the 2011-2012 school year is vast approaching. In just a few weeks we will be wrapping up our summer experiences and heading out to Malibu! But before we start school, we must first have a reunion at the wonderful UCLA Gamma Phi house!

Here are a few highlights from this summer:

        Sisterhood in Argentina!!!

Recent seniors Annie Block-Weiss and Sarah Bennett participated in the 2011 Summer Buenos Aires Program.

Movie Stars Galore

Junior Genevieve Chong worked as an intern at the world famous Cannes International Film Festival in France. Wherever you are, a Gamma Phi will be also. It was no surprise that Gen met another sister at the festival. After the festival, Gen spent a month traveling all over Europe and the UK!

Back in Malibu

When some of our sisters returned from traveling, we had to reunite! There is nothing like sun, surf, and laughter to bring us closer together!

President Harper Matthews and Nikki Berry show off their new house

Taco Tuesdays at Dukes with a few gamma phi alums and our sorority sweetheart Troy Shepard!

It is hard to believe that this summer is already coming to a close. However, we are thrilled to be reunited in just two short weeks!
